Old Familiar Faces….

June 15, 2009 Leave a comment

I came across one of the works of poet Charles lamb. I was touched by the tone of nostalgia in the poem.
each one of us n somecorner of heart does preserve the joyful moments of the past …
Indeed a lovely work…

I HAVE had playmates I have had companions,
In my days of childhood, in my joyful school-days–
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

I have been laughing, I have been carousing,
Drinking late, sitting late, with my bosom cronies–
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

I loved a Love once, fairest among women:
Closed are her doors on me, I must not see her–
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

I have a friend, a kinder friend has no man:
Like an ingrate, I left my friend abruptly;
Left him, to muse on the old familiar faces.

Ghost-like I paced round the haunts of my childhood,
Earth seem’d a desert I was bound to traverse,
Seeking to find the old familiar faces.

Friend of my bosom, thou more than a brother,
Why wert not thou born in my father’s dwelling?
So might we talk of the old familiar faces–

How some they have died, and some they have left me,
And some are taken from me; all are departed–
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

MY HERO….

June 15, 2009 3 comments

Inspiration can come in any form it can be a book by a great saint or it can be a spider in one of deepest cave in a wild jungle. But the importance here is not of the object but it lies in the eyes of the beholder that how he compiles the tiny facts and build his own fresh observation which is called inspiration.
Actually each thing in a universe itself is inspiring and holds a very special place in the creation, but one needs to be drawn toward it.
I am a great cartoon lover and (even if it sounds absurd) Naruto is my hero. Naruto is a cartoon character in a series of the same name. He is a normal boy with a diehard will to succeed, to overcome all the obstacles that comes in his way, there are incidents in which although the greatest and even the most powerful of his colleague give up but his will to reach his goal is so strong and so deep nestled in his heart that even when his body is haggard and tired its only his will power that keeps him going. Because he really believes in what he is doing and has an ardent belief in his principles and values that he is even able to inspire the people in the most miserable conditions and fill their hearts with new hope and enthusiasm. He is great and I wish one day I will be able to have a great optimistic attitude like his toward life and whatever I do. After watching naruto I always feel that whatever comes in my way I will move on and on…

FROM …MULTICS ……..TO………LINUX

June 14, 2009 3 comments

In early 1940’s computers were, batch systems which took enormous time for computing. Around mid 1960’s MIT and Bell laboratories came up with second generation of computers and MULTICS was introduced which was written in BASIC. .
It had numerous features intended to result in high availability so that it would produce a computing utility similar to the telephone and electricity services. Modular hardware structure and software architecture were used to achieve this. The system could grow in size by simply adding more of the appropriate resource—computing power, main memory, disk storage, etc. Separate access control lists on every file provided flexible information sharing and complete privacy when needed. It had a number of standard mechanisms to allow engineers to analyze the performance of the system as well as a number of adaptive performance optimization mechanisms.
The UNIX operating system found its beginnings in MULTICS (Multiplexed Operating and Computing System). In 1969 Bell laboratory pulled out and this project and this was taken by Ken Thompson. He liked the potential of MULTICS, but felt it was too complex and that the same thing could be done in simpler way. In 1969 he wrote UNICS which was simplified version of MULTICS. UNICS stood for Uniplexed Operating and Computing System. The problem was that UNICS had to be rewritten for every new machine which was launched.

UNIX-THE BABY BORN
The shortcoming of UNICS led Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie to join hands. Thompson wrote the whole source code in B language which did not gave the expected results so; Dennis Ritchie invented the C language which was right language at the right time. Then the whole source code was written in C language.
During that time PDP-11 was the most efficient and affordable mini-computer for commercial and educational purpose. The 6th and 7th versions of UNIX were released on PDP-11 and this helped in the spread of UNIX and this version came to be known as PDP-11 UNIX.

By late 1970’s there were many versions of UNIX. Among various different existing versions following are the most important ones:
BERKELEY UNIX
In university of Berkeley, California they developed their own new version from PDP-11 which was called 1BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution). It had many new added features like paging , virtual memory ,vi editor , csh shell. Hence many of the vendors like SUN , DEC preferred this version compare to the official system V .
SYSTEM V
Once written in C still, different disk drivers wanted their compiler to be written separately in assembly. Hence Steve Johnson came up with portable C compiler. In 1984 AT&T got the license circulated, system V which was followed by system V.2 and system V3.4 later.

But by 1995 most of the companies had license for UNIX. And many versions existed in the market. Hence there was a need to standardise it. So IEEE came up with a project POSIX (Portable operating system of UNIX). This included set of library conformant most of these procedures invoke system calls but few can be implemented outside the kernel.

MINIX-OPERATIONS SIMPLIFIED
UNIX itself was far more expensive. In quest of big money, the Unix vendors priced it high enough to ensure small PC users stayed away from it. The source code of UNIX, once taught in universities courtesy of Bell Labs, was now cautiously guarded and not published publicly. The big players in the software market failed to provide an efficient solution to this problem.
A solution seemed to appear in form of MINIX. It was written from scratch by Andrew S. Tanenbaum, a US-born Dutch professor who wanted to teach his students the inner workings of a real operating system. It was designed to run on the Intel 8086 microprocessors that had flooded the world market.
As an operating system, MINIX was not a superb one. But it had the advantage that the source code of 12,000 lines was available. For the first time, an aspiring programmer and hacker could read the source codes of the operating system, which to that time the software vendors had guarded. And one of them was Linus Torvalds. The structure of MINIX was very simple and the creator intentionally didn’t want to add more features in order to maintain its simplicity, there were constant requests from the programmers worldwide for the development of MINIX kernel but all of them were ignored by Andrew Tanenbaum.

It was then that a young finnish student Linus Torvalds came up with a fresh new kernel and approached the online community for further development of his project which came to be known as “LINUX”.

GLOOM II
Is it not an irony of fate??
Is it not a broken, shattered dream of heart?
Time once promised me a star
Which broke before the springs came in flowers…?
But afraid of it, I m still lying still and calm
I know not what to pray, what to say…
I know not what to do, where to go…
Feeling the numbness inside me since long
I know not, I believe in, I dare not say all this…

CARTOON cartoons………

June 14, 2009 Leave a comment

People have hobbies, they have crushes, they have temptations, they have addictions…
I also have not one but many. And one such irresistible and luring craze of mine is cartoons. Im totally addicted to them.
The best thing about cartoons for me is they are my tranquilizers; I’m really crazzzzy about them. I love to watch all types of cartoons don’t matter if it’s Mickey Mouse, Donald, Tom and Jerry or some new anime series. I can fall for any one.

People do think that cartoons are really kiddies stuff or some even may argue that I like to live in some imaginary world and I do agree to some extent but it gives me strength to face the real world.
Some time when I m feeling really low, and when things don’t go well around me, then I just lie down and watch my favorite cartoon show. And my pain or agonies or whatever it is just vanishes away… like some magic trick. Tats how it works for me ….
There are times when I need I need something apart from inspiration and that relaxation and cartoons are the one I rush after.
I feel each one of us should have such a relaxing hobby or interest it fills loads of colors in your life.

LINUX-A REVOLUTION

June 14, 2009 1 comment

Linux is one of the fastest growing operating systems in the history. From a few dedicated fanatics in 1991-92 to millions of general users at present, it is certainly a remarkable journey. Started as a humble project by a Finnish second year computer science student , today it has covered the global computer market ranging from small palmtops to the supercomputers. The evolution and study of Linux traces back the evolution of operating systems right from the second generation to the present generation.

LINUS BENEDICT TORVALDS
In 1991, Linus Benedict Torvalds a Finnish student at the University of Helsinki and a self-taught hacker independently developed monolithic Linux kernel. He released the kernel on the World Wide Web and developers around the globe helped in the development of the full fledged version.

The first Linux kernel released was Version 0.01, dated May 14, 1991. The code sized 9300 lines in C and 950 lines of assembler. It had no networking, ran only on 80386-compatible processors and had limited device-driver support. The virtual memory subsystem was basic and included no support for memory mapped files.
The next version, Linux 1.0, was released on March 14, 1994. It sized 16500 lines in C. The biggest new feature was networking: it included support for UNIX’s standard TCP/IP networking protocols, as well as a BSD socket interface for networking programming. This included a much enhanced file system and supported a range of SSCI controllers for high-performance disk access.
As development progressed, the Linux 1.2 kernel was released in March, 1995. It supported much wider variety of hardware, including the new PCI hardware bus architecture. They also updated the networking stack to provide support for the IPX protocol and made the IP implementation more complete by including accounting and firewalling functionality.
In June, 1996 Linux 2.0 was released. This release was given a major version number increment on account of two major new capabilities: support for multiple architectures, including a fully 64-bit native Alpha port, and support for multiprocessor architectures. The changes in 2.0 did not stop here. The memory management code was substantially improved to provide unified cache for file- system data independent of the caching of block devices. The 2.0 kernel also included much improved TCP/IP performance, and a number of new networking protocols were added, including AppleTalk, AX.25 amateur radio networking, and ISDN support. Other major improvements were support for internal kernel threads, for handling dependencies between loadable modules, and for automatic loading of modules on demand. Additional new features included file-system quotas and POSIX-compatible real-time process-scheduling classes.
Improvement continued with the release of Linux 2.2 in January 1999. A port for UltraSPARC systems was added. Networking was enhanced with more flexible firewalling, better routing and traffic management, and support for TCP large window and selective acks. Acorn, Apple, and NT disks could now be read, and NFS was enhanced and a kernel-mode NFS daemon added. Signal handling, interrupts, and some I/O were locked at a finer level than before to improve symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) performance.
Advances in 2.4 and 2.6 releases of the kernel include increased support for SMP systems, journaling fie-systems, and enhancements to the memory-management system. The process scheduler has been modified in version 2.6, providing an efficient O(1) scheduling algorithm. In addition the Linux 2.6 kernel is now pre-emptive, allowing a process to be pre-empted while running in kernel mode.

Constant work is been done for further advancement of the kernel with the help of hackers around the world you can also drop in and check out if you too can amalgamate your flair…

GLOOM……sometimes

GLOOM I
It hurts a lot when your own self betrays
Yes ,its true you can’t feel the pain
Because the pain, yes pain of your heart
Lies inside you , you can’t feel..you can’t see
Full with it, blinded with the pain you suffer
But you suffer from the sense of guilt
Guilt that drowns you in the state
A State where you see the agony of a heart
A Heart which is so full of betrayal
Betrayal which is gift from your love
Love which was once your own
But now has not bothered to care
Now that you see that its all over
Over again , a mistake of your own.

SMOKING KILLS…………..

Hi…
Everybody around the globe…
I m quite infamous nowadays with increasing awareness and new prevention methods coming up .
Although I contain more than 4000 chemicals of which over 50 of them are cancer-causing which include tar (for paving roads), acetone (paint stripper), DDT (pesticide for mosquitoes and ants), arsenic (white ant poison) and cadmium (car battery chemical), I also increases the rate of heartbeat and blood pressure because of the stimulation of the nervous system by the nicotin, there is no reduction in the number of my users …
I especially like my female friends so I give them special dispensation of premature wrinkles on the skin and for women who are pregnant I can even induce miscarriage, there is a great chance that her child will be exposed and adversely affected by passive smoking. One more effect can be underweight or malnourished children.
And if someone dare to leave my company hearing one of those cursed awareness campaigns or any other damn reason I don’t give an easy let go…
I cause…………..
Difficulty in concentration or dizziness because the brain needs to get used to having more oxygen
Cough and running nose as the lungs get rid of all the dirt and germs that had accumulated inside while you were with me
Strong craving for me for a week or two while your body gets rid of my beloved nicotine
Tingling sensations in your arms and legs as your blood circulation returns to normal
I kill…
5.4 million people every year…
1 person in every 6 seconds…
Account for one in 10 adult deaths world wide…
I kill up to half of my users
I am known for killing
I AM CIGARETTE…….. “

SO NOW THAT EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT SMOKING KILLS WHY NOT TRY QUITING IT. ALONG WITH THE ABOVE GIVEN SHORT TERM EFFECTS THERE ARE MORE DANGEROUS LONG TERM EFFECTS TOO.

Along with severe health related problems it also severly effects the economic condition of the smoker. One of the hardest issues to deal with for anyone usually resides in them quitting smoking. It is a pain and the fact that nicotine happens to be as addictive as humanly possible doesn’t make it any easier for the person that is trying to stop. It is a tough experience for everyone and something that just leads to a lot of stress for the individual usually causing them more problems and again turning to cigarettes to relieve their stress. Therefore it is extremely important that when understand how to quit smoking cigarettes you realize there are several things you need to have a healthy supply of.
Perhaps the first thing you are going to want to have on hand is a group of supportive loved ones and friends. Nobody likes doing anything alone especially when it comes to quitting something. Also that way if you happen to be the friend you can keep an eye on your friend to make sure they aren’t going back to the pack when no one is looking.
Another good thing to have on hand is some alternative to the cigarette be it whatever helps you the most. Some prefer the patch, gum, pills anything that you feel will help. However remember while you are doing this that you don’t want to get addicted to something else in the process of quitting smoking.
Also it is a good idea to find some kind of stress relief that in case something does get on your nerves you have a back up item to do to. Stay away from the cigarettes at any time you feel you need them. This is only going to satiate your need and craving which isn’t going to help you quit.
If you can achieve these things than you will know how to quit smoking. Not only that but you will be successful at doing so.

shocking truth

June 3, 2009 1 comment

This video brings out shocking but bare truth.
Where on one side the world is developing and prospering and he other world people living in such harsh conditions.
So I am thoughtless about the possible solution for the problem, giving our views on the problem is of no use when we cant come with a solution. People are dying every minute, if as a fellow humans we couldn’t come with an appropriate solution it’s a shame on us. On our humanity
So next time
When u waste food….
When u waste energy …
When u squander money…
When u waste even your time …
Remind your self that each of this can be utilized to make this world much better
The food you waste can be used to feed others .
The energy you waste can be used to help out others.
The money we waste can be used for the upliftment of others .
And finally the time u waste can be used to bring out a feasible solution .

so lets do it….

Lead India

My 3-year old young cousin came to our place for her holidays this summer. One evening she asked me what loksabha is ? I was not able to make out which what explanation should I give … shall I start explaining her the basic parliament structure or shall I just tell her another fairy tale. I was trying to figure out the most appropriate option just then my 13-year old brother sneaked in, and said spontaneously “loksabha is a place where elected ministers are suppose to build the future of our country but instead most of the time are caught fighting (wildly), not to mention occasionally fighting with chairs or even mikes “

I was at my wits end when I heard this and it made me ponder over certain really grave issues ,what impression does the young generation have in their mind about the leaders of the nation I wanted to argue, but I couldn’t because that’s what they see in news channels and that’s what is happening in the insatiable thirst of power .

Sometimes I wonder what can be the cause of such outrageous behavior from our leader…

Many ex-DON’s and mafia’s are joining the politics…

Many ministers in our states doesn’t even have an original high-school certificate…

Many leader’s move around with the slogan “switch to swadeshi “ but have their accounts in swiss banks…

Many leader’s although holding high degrees are lacking the fundamental ethics…

Many new portfolio’s are added in every new coalition government …

…..

the list of loop holes is endless…

Everybody knows the problem…

But very few come up with a solution and that too either is constrained to files or is hindered by the red tapism.

Who is responsible for this?

Who is going to solve this ?

Who is going to bring about the revolution?

how is our country going to become the “viswaguru-the leader” with such people leading?

It is we, the people who are responsible and only we can and we have to bring the change around.

There is a need of quality leaders with brains, values , selfless attitude and that diehard spirit of patriotism. But the fact is such leaders do not grow on trees; they are made. the youngsters of today are leaders of tomorrow. So it’s a need of time that we start nourishing them. Beautiful bud blooms only under the strict surveillance of a gardener . Quality output can only be gained if we give quality input. And this quality input are the values ,vital basic ethics which are dormant today. In earlier days the rulers, the kings and the princes used to go and live in gurukuls with saints and sages and their they used to learn to rule the minds as well as hearts of people. This system was capable of producing quality leaders, history proves the point. And even the basic logic says the person who himself is not disciplined or the one who himself is not satisfied, how can he give satisfaction to others. In today’s scenario most of the politicians give priority to their own selfish interest and not bothering for the good of the people. There is a need to nurture the new generation with much high morals and a wider area of action. This can only happen when each one us is aware of the ultimate need of time , when each one of us will make a promise to spread this ethical change to masses.

The best way to start the trend is to start from oneself. Yes, that’s the first step to develop a selfless attitude, develop a habit of helping others , develop a optimistic point of view and the most important one is to nurture the fire of patriotism. This can’t be done by watching a movie or reading a book or singing a song but it should come from within, everybody has that fire. The only need is to air the fire and let it burn one’s selfish ambitions. When you start living for others you will be able to fill your heart with the priceless wealth of long lasting satisfaction which nothing can buy. If even half a population of our nation starts thinking for others and develop such an attitude then gone will be the days of corruption, bribery and evils pertaining the society. So, let’s try this mantra then this will automatically develop into a habit. If citizens of a nation have such an outlook than there is no doubt about the leader. Because leader will be one amongst us. The days of discussion and arguments are gone: now is the time for action.

One such effort was made by Times of India, started as a humble advertisement which gradually became a nationwide movement . such a bold and effective step is really very encouraging and effective.

Apart, from giving hope that justice still prevails this also gave a platform and stage to many people to share their visions and views. This was something really new, innovative and inspiring, with big tycoons of film industry , business, social workers joining the campaign, it was a great effort…

This video gives the details of the event from the beginning till the end, it really is a must watch.
