India is still a developing country.
There are various problems India is facing. Every country faces problem whether it’s a developed or a developing country.
According to me one main problem which if cured efficiently can put an end to many troubles and evils creeping in our society,
Why are politicians corrupt…?
Why are terrorists killing fellow humans…?
Why are riots taking place…?
Why people stealing, murdering fellow beings…?
Why …?
The answer is very straightforward and simple its because they want
MORE POWER …
MORE MONEY…
MORE MORE…
These either because they are not satisfied with what they have or they fear that the one superior to him will crush his existence.
Both the cases are the result of hollowness of heart.
Or to put in better words lack of “values “.
Values here are the one which are taught by our scriptures, our culture is truly rich because it covers each and every aspect of human nature. The methods adopted in it are fully tested and proven. In olden days children were sending to gurukuls for their studies where they use to learn the basic values. A simple example is our culture teaches us all about giving (daan), so it was a rule in olden days that if a guest comes to your house than the duty of the family is first to satisfy the guest fully than only they would think about eating themselves.
As india is globalizing our culture is diminishing there is a need to revoke this trend in our society.
This change itself can solve so many problems of the nation,
With values the satisfaction and contentment of society will increase, greed and hunger for power can be reduced to some extent.
And a man with values will seek proper ways to fulfill his goals and ambition.
He will take care that his fellow beings are also taken care of.
And even in extreme conditions he will not react as badly or aggressively as the one without any values (a very good example is that nowadays every now and then we do hear news of kids shooting their class mates in foreign nations which is still not much frequent in India, which no doubt is the result of past heritage of our nation).
Now how to implement this…
I feel the whole education system of india should undergo a change, but as we seek a fast recovery we can adopt alight change in the curriculum. Although students generally have a subject called moral science in their curriculum, but still lot of revision has to be done to make it work more effecyively.
A child’s mind is like a wet clay which can be moulded in either way, so care should be taken about the way of exposure child gets. Children should be given practical training about thir duties and responsibilities towards society, they should be made aware of our grand culture and hence be taught its values. Parents should be made integral part of this training, special classes should also be conducted for the mentors and guardians on how to deal with children. Because a child remembers each action and hence gives equal and opposite reaction. This can mark a mojor step in evolving a value based education system. Each individual should be made to understand the importance of value based education, of selfless service, of one’s duties towards society and then towards the nation.
Although cent percent participation is difficult to gain but gradually from one individuals to many and then this will cover the masses too.
How this will affect various problems faced by the country…?????????
CORRUPTION
This is a major draw back of our society. But the only answer for this problem is value based education system . No other solution is as promising as the one stated in case of corruption.
TERRORISM
Although the foreign terrorism can’t be totally wiped out but with proper and dedicated authorities, less corrupt authorities and more ethical citizens. Terror attacks will obviously cause less harm. There are many Indians who help terrorists to spread the fire or they themselves become one of them, here value based education system can play a major role.
POVERTY
The cause of poverty is either due to illiteracy or unemployment. Both cases have roots in either corruption or unawareness. Literacy campaigns can spread awareness and value based education can teach each citizen to check that his fellow being is happy and contended.
If implemented properly this value based revolution can bring about winds of change that will not only change the future of our nation, but also lay a bright new path for rest of the world to follow.
If even half of us take a vow to spread this message in masses then in even less than 11 years we will be able to feel a difference.
JAI HIND

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the
way its animals are treated. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the
more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man.”
–Mohandas Karmchand Gandhi

We are humans….
We are the most developed species on this planet earth…
We have the most active and powerful brains among all the species on this planet…
We follow the Darwin’s theory “survival of the fittest”…
We kill the weaker species and feed on them…

All the above give facts are true …aren’t they?

But some of the new practices of men have posed a question mark on the above facts. As man is becoming technologically advanced and developed, his progress is bringing some disastrous change in environment around and even in the minds.
One of such latest gruesome trend is Factory Farming.
Factory farming began in the 1920s soon after the discovery of vitamins A and D; when these vitamins are added to feed, animals no longer require exercise and sunlight for growth. This allowed large numbers of animals to be raised indoors year-round.
This was accepted in many nations as the cost of production reduced considerably, as the land cost, maintenance cost and feed costs.

Moreover, the high input costs of agricultural operations result in a large influx and distribution of capital to a rural area from distant buyers rather than simply recirculation existing capital. A single dairy cow contributes over $1300 US to a local rural economy each year, each beef cow over $800, meat turkey $14, and so on. As Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff states, “Research estimates that the annual economic impact per cow is $13,737. In addition, each $1 million increase in PA milk sales creates 23 new jobs. This tells us that dairy farms are good for Pennsylvania’s economy.
But, these plus points seem only meager infront of the suffering and harm to nature.
Along with causing harm to surroundings, natural bio diversity the biggest price is paid by the animals.

In some videos the bare truth is so harsh that I couldn’t even dare to watch full video .
Here are some shocking facts….
Pigs
It is estimated that 90% of all pigs raised for food are confined at some point in their lives. Pigs are highly social, affectionate and intelligent creatures, and suffer both physically and emotionally when they are confined in narrow cages where they cannot even turn around. Many pigs become crazy with boredom and develop vices like mouthing, and nervous ticks; others are driven to fighting and cannibalism because of their frustration. Pigs are born and raised inside buildings that have automated water, feed and waste removal. They don’t see daylight until they are shipped for slaughter. Dust, dirt and toxic gases from the pigs’ waste create an unsanitary environment that encourages the onset of a number of diseases and illnesses, including pneumonia, cholera, dysentery and trichinosis.

Veal Calves
The veal industry is notorious for the cruel confinement of calves. Calves are kept in small crates which prevent movement inhibit muscle growth so their flesh will be tender. They are also fed a diet deficient of iron to keep their flesh pale and appealing to the consumer. Veal calves spend each day confined alone with no companionship and are deprived of light for a large portion of their four-month lives

Dairy Cows
Dairy cows are bred today for high milk production. For cows who are injected with Bovine Growth Hormone, their already high rate of milk production is doubled. Half of the cows in the national dairy herd are raised in intensive confinement, where they suffer emotionally from being socially deprived and being prohibited from natural behavior. Dairy cows produce milk for about 10 months after giving birth so they are impregnated continuously to keep up the milk flow. Female calves are kept to replenish the herd and male calves are usually sent to veal crates where they live a miserable existence until their slaughter. When cows become unable to produce adequate amounts of milk they are sent to slaughter so money can be made from their flesh. The cows are kept in a holding facility where they are fed, watered and have their waste removed mechanically and are allowed out only twice a day to be milked by machines.
Turkey
The birds live mired in their own waste, breathing strong ammonia fumes, which burn their eyes and lungs. To keep them alive in these filthy, disease-ridden conditions—and to stimulate their growth—farmers feed them antibiotics. Because the birds are drugged and bred to grow so large in such a short period of time, their bones can’t support their weight, and many suffer from broken legs. Some birds attempt to drag themselves by their wings to reach food and water.
At the slaughterhouse, the terrified turkeys are hung upside-down, and their heads are dragged through an electrified “stunning tank,” which immobilizes them but does not kill them. Many birds dodge the tank and are still conscious when their throats are cut. If the turkeys’ throats are not cut properly—which happens often—the birds are scalded to death in the tanks of water used to remove their feathers.

This was all about suffering of the poor speechless creatures. But apart from this this also cause harm to the environment, usually the most fatal communicable diseases are spread in unhygienic as ideally provided by these farms. It is being reported that SARS was first detected in a owner of duck farm ( this has not yet received scientific confirmation yet).

Waste Pollution and the Environment
(1) The USDA reports that animals in the US meat industry produce 61
million tons of waste each year, which is 130 times the volume of human
waste – or five tons for every US citizen.

(2) North Carolina’s 7,000,000 factory-raised hogs create four times as
much waste – stored in reeking, open cesspools – as the state’s 6.5 million
people. The Delmarva Peninsula’s 600 million chickens produce 400,000 tons
of manure a year.

(3) According to the Environmental Protection Agency, hog, chicken and
cattle waste has polluted 35,000 miles of rivers in 22 states and
contaminated groundwater in 17 states.

(4) Pfiesteria, a microscopic organism that feeds off the phosphorus and
nitrogen found in manure, is a lethal toxin harmful to both humans and
fish. In 1991 alone, 1,000,000,000,000 (one billion) fish were killed by
pfiesteria in the Neuse River in North Carolina.

(5) Since 1995, an additional one billion fish have been killed from manure
runoff in estuaries and coastal areas in North Carolina, and the Maryland
and Virginia tributaries leading into the Chesapeake Bay. These deaths can
be directly related to the 10 million hogs currently being raised in North
Carolina and the 620 million chickens on the Eastern Shore of the
Chesapeake Bay.

(6) The pollution from animal waste causes respiratory problems, skin
infections, nausea, depression and even death for people who live near
factory farms. Livestock waste has been linked to six miscarriages in women
living near a hog factory in Indiana

(7) In Virginia, state guidelines indicate that a safe level of fecal
coliform bacteria is 200 colonies per 100 milliliters of water. In 1997,
some streams had levels as high as 424,000 per 100 milliliters

What can we do about it ……….
The best thing one can do is…
TO TURN TO VEGETERIANISMvegetarian food is not just a treat for your taste buds – it is great for your health too. Leading scientists are now proving that what we eat directly affects the quality of our lives. While animal foods contribute to cancer, heart disease, obesity and many other killers, a vegetarian diet can make us healthier and much much more….
But some might find difficulty in turning vegetarian all of sudden so, atleast you can see to it that you don’t contribute in such inhuman act. In india factory farms are still less in numbers compare to other countries in the world.
Apart from that we as Indian hold a moral responsibility toward every fellow living creature.
In srimad bhagwad gita (chapter 14, verse 5) lord Krishna describes three types of qualities-goodness(satva), passion(rajah ) and ignorance(tamah). Each one of these binds human mind with their respective nature. Satva leads to selfless attitude toward work, rajah leads to workaholic nature and tamah leads to ignorance and laziness.
The point to note here is that it is said that food also varies in these three categories and the type of food taken by a person also reflects the nature and the qualities to be shown by him.
In verse 10 chapter 17 Lord describes the kind of food
the food intake of animals slaughtered in these factory farms (not to mention the suffering and torture they undergo before dying) surely lie under this category. So eventually even if we are forced to eat such food this will eventually lead us to ignorance. And ignorant citizens will not be able to contribute in building of our nation.
Even if one doesn’t follow hindism but at least as humans it is our moral responsibility to stop this massacre.
There are many sites which will give more detailed information about the suffering of animals.

“Im here to do my best for the day” – Kiran Bedi

KIRAN BEDI is a household name today. The name itself has become a source of inspiration to many and also a symbol of celebrated strength of a woman.
Her life is a tale of struggle and triumph of woman standing alone in a male dominated society. One of the most admired Indian celebrity, apart from serving the country for 35 years she has also been a lecturer, author of many books, coloumnist and she even has represented India in Asian tennis championship. She is a sought after speaker on social, professional and leadership issues. Apart from all she is an excellent mother , a homemaker and an inspiration of millions of people around the globe.

Kiran Bedi was born on June 9, 1949 to Prakash Lal Peshawaria, a landlord in Punjab was determined to educate his four daughters at a time when women were largely limited to doing household tasks. Both held unconventional views and this gave the girls grand opportunity to excel in their respective fields.

Kiran did her schooling from the Sacred Heart Convent School, Amritsar, where she joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC). She also took up tennis, a passion she inherited from her father, who himself was a talented tennis player. Later, she obtained her B.A. in English (Hons.) (1964-68) from the Government College for Women, Amritsar. She then earned a Master’s degree (1968-70) in Political Science from Punjab University, Chandigarh, topping the University.
She worked as a lecturer in Political Science (1970-72) at Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar until in 1972 which was very special year for her as this was the year in which she meet her life partner Brij Bedi and also got selected in Indian Police Service(IPS) which made her first woman to join the Indian police force. It is said that Spectators at the 1973 Republic Day Parade were amazed to see a lady at the head of the Police Contingent. The then Prime Minister, Mrs. lndira Gandhi was so impressed that she invited Kiran for breakfast with her the very next day.

Her dedication and devotion was awesome as in each new postion she brought new reforms in the old depilated police system. Many times she had to bear the heat of her superiors too.
Kiran Bedi also influenced other areas like control of narcotics, traffic management and VIP security. During her transfer to Tihar Jail as the Inspector General of Prison she worked relentlessly to give jailed convicts a new lease of life through meditation and spiritualism.
Remember the long ago when we lay together
In a pain of tenderness and counted
Our dreams: long summer afternoons
When the whistling-thrush released
A deep sweet secret on the trembling air;
Blackbird on the wing, bird of the forest shadows,
Black rose in the long ago summer,
This was your song:
It isn’t time that’s passing by,
It is you and I.

I came across one of the works of poet Charles lamb. I was touched by the tone of nostalgia in the poem.
each one of us n somecorner of heart does preserve the joyful moments of the past …
Indeed a lovely work…

I HAVE had playmates I have had companions,
In my days of childhood, in my joyful school-days–
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

I have been laughing, I have been carousing,
Drinking late, sitting late, with my bosom cronies–
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

I loved a Love once, fairest among women:
Closed are her doors on me, I must not see her–
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

I have a friend, a kinder friend has no man:
Like an ingrate, I left my friend abruptly;
Left him, to muse on the old familiar faces.

Ghost-like I paced round the haunts of my childhood,
Earth seem’d a desert I was bound to traverse,
Seeking to find the old familiar faces.

Friend of my bosom, thou more than a brother,
Why wert not thou born in my father’s dwelling?
So might we talk of the old familiar faces–

How some they have died, and some they have left me,
And some are taken from me; all are departed–
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

Inspiration can come in any form it can be a book by a great saint or it can be a spider in one of deepest cave in a wild jungle. But the importance here is not of the object but it lies in the eyes of the beholder that how he compiles the tiny facts and build his own fresh observation which is called inspiration.
Actually each thing in a universe itself is inspiring and holds a very special place in the creation, but one needs to be drawn toward it.
I am a great cartoon lover and (even if it sounds absurd) Naruto is my hero. Naruto is a cartoon character in a series of the same name. He is a normal boy with a diehard will to succeed, to overcome all the obstacles that comes in his way, there are incidents in which although the greatest and even the most powerful of his colleague give up but his will to reach his goal is so strong and so deep nestled in his heart that even when his body is haggard and tired its only his will power that keeps him going. Because he really believes in what he is doing and has an ardent belief in his principles and values that he is even able to inspire the people in the most miserable conditions and fill their hearts with new hope and enthusiasm. He is great and I wish one day I will be able to have a great optimistic attitude like his toward life and whatever I do. After watching naruto I always feel that whatever comes in my way I will move on and on…

In early 1940’s computers were, batch systems which took enormous time for computing. Around mid 1960’s MIT and Bell laboratories came up with second generation of computers and MULTICS was introduced which was written in BASIC. .
It had numerous features intended to result in high availability so that it would produce a computing utility similar to the telephone and electricity services. Modular hardware structure and software architecture were used to achieve this. The system could grow in size by simply adding more of the appropriate resource—computing power, main memory, disk storage, etc. Separate access control lists on every file provided flexible information sharing and complete privacy when needed. It had a number of standard mechanisms to allow engineers to analyze the performance of the system as well as a number of adaptive performance optimization mechanisms.
The UNIX operating system found its beginnings in MULTICS (Multiplexed Operating and Computing System). In 1969 Bell laboratory pulled out and this project and this was taken by Ken Thompson. He liked the potential of MULTICS, but felt it was too complex and that the same thing could be done in simpler way. In 1969 he wrote UNICS which was simplified version of MULTICS. UNICS stood for Uniplexed Operating and Computing System. The problem was that UNICS had to be rewritten for every new machine which was launched.

UNIX-THE BABY BORN
The shortcoming of UNICS led Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie to join hands. Thompson wrote the whole source code in B language which did not gave the expected results so; Dennis Ritchie invented the C language which was right language at the right time. Then the whole source code was written in C language.
During that time PDP-11 was the most efficient and affordable mini-computer for commercial and educational purpose. The 6th and 7th versions of UNIX were released on PDP-11 and this helped in the spread of UNIX and this version came to be known as PDP-11 UNIX.

By late 1970’s there were many versions of UNIX. Among various different existing versions following are the most important ones:
BERKELEY UNIX
In university of Berkeley, California they developed their own new version from PDP-11 which was called 1BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution). It had many new added features like paging , virtual memory ,vi editor , csh shell. Hence many of the vendors like SUN , DEC preferred this version compare to the official system V .
SYSTEM V
Once written in C still, different disk drivers wanted their compiler to be written separately in assembly. Hence Steve Johnson came up with portable C compiler. In 1984 AT&T got the license circulated, system V which was followed by system V.2 and system V3.4 later.

But by 1995 most of the companies had license for UNIX. And many versions existed in the market. Hence there was a need to standardise it. So IEEE came up with a project POSIX (Portable operating system of UNIX). This included set of library conformant most of these procedures invoke system calls but few can be implemented outside the kernel.

MINIX-OPERATIONS SIMPLIFIED
UNIX itself was far more expensive. In quest of big money, the Unix vendors priced it high enough to ensure small PC users stayed away from it. The source code of UNIX, once taught in universities courtesy of Bell Labs, was now cautiously guarded and not published publicly. The big players in the software market failed to provide an efficient solution to this problem.
A solution seemed to appear in form of MINIX. It was written from scratch by Andrew S. Tanenbaum, a US-born Dutch professor who wanted to teach his students the inner workings of a real operating system. It was designed to run on the Intel 8086 microprocessors that had flooded the world market.
As an operating system, MINIX was not a superb one. But it had the advantage that the source code of 12,000 lines was available. For the first time, an aspiring programmer and hacker could read the source codes of the operating system, which to that time the software vendors had guarded. And one of them was Linus Torvalds. The structure of MINIX was very simple and the creator intentionally didn’t want to add more features in order to maintain its simplicity, there were constant requests from the programmers worldwide for the development of MINIX kernel but all of them were ignored by Andrew Tanenbaum.

It was then that a young finnish student Linus Torvalds came up with a fresh new kernel and approached the online community for further development of his project which came to be known as “LINUX”.

Is it not an irony of fate??
Is it not a broken, shattered dream of heart?
Time once promised me a star
Which broke before the springs came in flowers…?
But afraid of it, I m still lying still and calm
I know not what to pray, what to say…
I know not what to do, where to go…
Feeling the numbness inside me since long
I know not, I believe in, I dare not say all this…

People have hobbies, they have crushes, they have temptations, they have addictions…
I also have not one but many. And one such irresistible and luring craze of mine is cartoons. Im totally addicted to them.
The best thing about cartoons for me is they are my tranquilizers; I’m really crazzzzy about them. I love to watch all types of cartoons don’t matter if it’s Mickey Mouse, Donald, Tom and Jerry or some new anime series. I can fall for any one.

People do think that cartoons are really kiddies stuff or some even may argue that I like to live in some imaginary world and I do agree to some extent but it gives me strength to face the real world.
Some time when I m feeling really low, and when things don’t go well around me, then I just lie down and watch my favorite cartoon show. And my pain or agonies or whatever it is just vanishes away… like some magic trick. Tats how it works for me ….
There are times when I need I need something apart from inspiration and that relaxation and cartoons are the one I rush after.
I feel each one of us should have such a relaxing hobby or interest it fills loads of colors in your life.
